Wash, Dry and Fold in Sydney: How the $9.90 Per Kilo Service Works

Wash, dry and fold in Sydney is the simplest service we offer and the one that changes people’s week the most. You hand over a bag of everyday clothing, towels and sheets, and it comes back washed, dried and neatly folded, ready to put away. At $9.90 per kilo there is no sorting, no queueing at a laundromat and no waiting on a dryer.

WashMate runs wash, dry and fold from Surry Hills and Leichhardt, with pickup and delivery across Sydney metro. For a quote, email info@washmate.com.au.

How the service works

  • Bag it — everyday washing: clothing, towels, sheets, activewear, kids’ clothes
  • Book it — drop into either store, or book a pickup online
  • We sort and weigh — separated by colour and fabric, and weighed so you know the price
  • Washed and dried — appropriate temperatures per load, not one setting for everything
  • Folded and returned — back to you ready for the drawer, typically in 3 to 5 business days

How the price is worked out

Your bag is weighed when it reaches us and charged at $9.90 per kilo, so you pay for exactly what you send. We do not estimate weight from item counts, because it depends entirely on what is in the bag — heavy denim, towels and bed linen weigh very differently from light summer clothing, and a damp towel weighs more than a dry one. If you want the figure before we start, ask and we will confirm the weight and the price once the bag is on the scales.

Pickup and delivery is a flat $15 per order on top, whether we collect one bag or several. Set against a laundromat — coins for the washer and dryer, plus the trip and the waiting — the gap is smaller than most people assume, and you get the time back.

What should not go in a wash-and-fold bag

  • Suits, blazers and tailored jackets — these need dry cleaning
  • Anything labelled dry clean only, including most silk and structured wool
  • Doonas, quilts and large blankets — these are priced separately as bedding
  • Heavily stained items, which should be flagged so they are pre-treated
  • Delicates you would normally hand wash — mention them and they can be handled separately

Who this suits

Apartment dwellers without a dryer, professionals working long weeks, new parents, share houses, students, and anyone travelling regularly. It is also the service that most often turns into a standing arrangement: once people have had a week without laundry, most want it every week. A weekly or fortnightly recurring pickup handles that automatically, with discounts customised to your volume.

Getting the best result

  • Empty pockets — tissues and pens cause most of the avoidable disasters
  • Point out stains and say what caused them
  • Separate anything needing cold or gentle handling
  • Bag whites separately if you are particular about them
  • Send a consistent volume each week so the schedule and pricing stay predictable

Wash and fold versus the laundromat

A laundromat costs less on paper. The real comparison includes the trip there, the wait while a machine runs, the second wait for a dryer that someone else is already using, and the trip home with a basket of clothes you still have to fold. For a household load that is comfortably two hours of your Saturday. Wash and fold removes the entire task, and with pickup and delivery you never leave the house.

There is a quality difference too. Laundromat machines are used by everyone for everything, including pet bedding and work overalls, and they are rarely cleaned between loads. Commercial laundry separates by colour and fabric, uses correct temperatures per load, and finishes with proper folding.
